Origins of William Dickson b1818?

The Dickson surname has a number of recorded links with Scotland as a sept of the Keith Clan.

It is quite possible that the ancestors of William Dickson arrived in Ireland either as part of the repopulating of Ireland arising from the Highland Clearances, or as part of a Scottish Regiment of the "occupying" British Army.

As I have been unable to find any records for William before his marriage in 1840 I am afraid this must remain speculation until proved otherwise.

Although a "weak link" at this time, descendents of William did migrate to Glasgow, Scotland at the end of the 19th century, and established a new line of the family.
