Catholic Churches in Limerick 1815 - 1939
Judith Hill in her book "The Building of Limerick" writes "The greatest physical manifestation of social and political changes in the second half of the 19th century in Limerick were the catholic churches that appeared in the new town and elsewhere in the city. Once carriages has taken families to assemblies, theatres and the cathedral, now people often poorer and numerous walked to mass, many attending daily. From 1856 - 1939, during a period of ninety years, parish churches, convents, friaries and their chapels and churches were being continuously built in Limerick".
