Pte. John Crawford  2 Bn Leinster Regiment.
Birthplace:    Ireland
Request for information on great-grandfather who served in Jamaica in  1895 ? John Crawford's wife was Mary. My grandfather John Gerald Crawford was born in Newcastle Jamaica 24th may 1899 and was baptised by Rev. P Kayser S.J. I have a certified true copy of the birth certificate and would appreciate any information.

Pte Samuel Evans 1 Bn Leinster Regiment
Birthplace: Wicklow, Ireland & his Birth Year was 1891. He joined the Leinsters in 1914
Pte Evans was my Gt. Grand Uncle. He died of wounds at Ypres on May 4th 1915. He was the son of Margaret & Ernest Evans, Colley St. Wicklow Town, Ireland. He was formerly with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and came from India to enlist in Naas Co. Kildare. He is remembered on panel 44 of the Menin Gate memorial.

Private John Hughes 2 Bn Leinster Regiment
Birthplace: Killoe, Co. Longford. Birth Year was 27 May 1881
Date joined the Regiment: c.1900 and late 1914/early 1915
John served with an unknown regiment in the earlier part of Boer War.
c.1900-'02 and c.1915-'18(?)
John Hughes (my grandfather) was at the Battle of Colenso (15 Dec. 1899) and must, therefore, have been in the entire Natal campaign. He was later transferred to the Leinsters. I have a photo of him with a tug-o'-war team and the medal which he won. The picture clearly shows the Leinster insignia and the letter "E" appears on each man's jersey (obviously "E" Coy, but I do not know which battalion). I also have a formal portrait of himself and two other soldiers in uniform with their service medals, taken in Pretoria probably in 1902. My grandfather is said to have met Jan Smuts. His Boer War service medals have been lost.
In WWI, his number was 4036. He was at Neuve Chappelle and the Somme. He was friendly with another Longford-man in the 2nd. Leinsters, Sgt. John Byrne, killed on 14 March 1915. I have a postcard he sent to his fiancée in which he refers to Byrne's death. I have another card (undated) on which he mentions in the address "details coy".
Any further information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
