Kelsall Census Data
Copyright of the data within the unpublished census enumerators books rests with the Public Record Office.
From 26th March 1999, the Crown waived its copyright in previously unpublished material as part of the 1999 White Paper The Future Management of Crown copyright
From this page you can choose to either read or download transcribed pages from the Census Enumerator's Books associated with the national census returns from the Township of Kelsall.
The transcriptions were made by Don Dickson as part of a brief study on migration within Kelsall between 1841 and 1891. Visitors to this site should keep in mind that the transcriptions, like all such documents, may contain transcription errors, so in the event that you have any uncertainty relating to accuracy you should read a copy of the original script entry in the microfilm versions of the CEBs stored at various archive and record offices.
Having said that, every effort was made to ensure accuracy of transcriptions, and were I was uncertain, a second opinion was always sought.
The documents are stored in Adobe Acrobat 3.1 format, the original data being stored as a Microsoft Excel File. To view the data you will require a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader which is a free programme available from the Adobe web site, or alternatively, many PC Magazines include a copy of Adobe Acrobat on their free cover CDs. If you have a copy of Adobe Acrobat on your PC just click the left mouse button when your pointer is over the census year in Row 1.
Files that will be downloaded are zipped versions which you must unzip before you can view them. You will need suitable zip software, such as WinZip, on your PC. Again most PC Magazines include a copy of WinZip on their free cover CDs. To download a zip file from Row 2, simply right click your mouse button when the pointer is over the year, and specify the directory path (on your own PC) that the file will download to, the file sizes are shown in kilobytes.
